This Natural Area Park is located north of Los Angeles, in the Sierra Pelona Mountains. The rocks here were formed by two tectonic plates bumping into each other, causing the land to push upward in a diagonal direction. One of the perks of living in the valley is you get to be so close to all these hiking trails with gorgeous backdrops!
Aside from the rock formations in this park, Vasquez Rocks is also known as a popular film location, used in the past by the movies Star Trek, The Flintstones, Wild Wild West, Planet of The Apes, Austin Powers, and many more!
Every spot looked different, it was like having different movie sets in a 900+ acre location! It certainly felt like I was on a different planet though, and I couldn’t believe this was just a couple of miles away from the city! Who would’ve thought that a place like this would exist in our backyard??
My husband and I took advantage of this place by creating a quick dance video which you can view here. Don’t forget to watch it in HD!
If you live in Los Angeles, I highly recommend that you check this place out. It’s a great spot for filming and outdoor photography, and it’s also perfect for those days when you just want to go out and explore.
Been here before? What was your favorite part about this Natural Area?
If you’re looking to check this place out, you’ll find more information in my adventure post in The Outbound!
