We were headed for Death Valley National Park when we decided to pass by Trona Pinnacles. I first learned about this place when I was researching about astrophotography and finding great places to practice it. Trona Pinnacles is apparently popular among photographers and explorers. There is no fee to get in, and no fee to camp. It is however, primitive style camping, and there is no other service in the area except for vault type toilets. Makes for a good adventure, though!
This place has a very unusual looking landscape, and has hundreds of tufa spires in varying shapes and sizes, some reaching a height of about 140 feet. Coming to this place made me feel like I am in a completely different planet! No wonder the film industry used this location for sci-fi films such as Star Trek, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica, and Planet of the Apes (to name a few).
If you are ever within the area, the Trona Pinnacles is a must-see. Although I got to visit it at night, I am most certain that it is just as amazing during the day. Can’t wait to visit again!
